Chronic Condition Support
If you have a chronic medical condition or serious illness, there are several steps you can take to make sure you receive the best care and highest level of benefit coverage:
- Get smart about your condition. Talk to your doctor and review reputable, independent resources to learn about your condition and recommended treatment protocols.
- Know if the doctor you are seeing is board certified in his or her specialty. Each medical specialty has a national board responsible for setting standards that doctors must meet in order to be certified. Board-certified doctors have completed several years of training beyond medical school, practiced for a designated number of years in that specialty, and passed examinations in their specialty area. Certified doctors must attend continuing medical education programs to maintain their certification. You may find a good doctor who is not board certified, but certification is generally a good indicator of knowledge and professionalism.
- Know what the plan covers. Contact your medical and prescription drug (if applicable) plan administrators to learn the details about what the plan covers.
- Take advantage of available support from the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield or UnitedHealthcare Healthy Focus Nurse Program. If you’re asked to participate in a condition management program, say “yes.” This support is expert, tested, and confidential—and can help ensure you receive the best possible outcome. And, when you participate, you have the opportunity to earn Healthy Rewards if you enroll in either the Health Reimbursement Copay Advantage Plan or Health Savings Medical Plan option.
- Get additional support through AccessHope for a cancer diagnosis. AccessHope provides leading cancer expertise at no cost for all USA-based employees and their eligible family members.
