The Savings Plan — 401(k)

Forward thinking starts with forward saving

It’s never too early to start saving for your future. Taking steps today can help you feel more confident about tomorrow.

By enrolling in—or increasing your contributions to—the Savings Plan, you’re making a simple choice that can have a meaningful impact over time. The Savings Plan is a 401(k) program that allows you to save for retirement through convenient automatic payroll deductions.

And you don’t have to do it alone—Siemens Healthineers helps your savings grow by providing company contributions to most employees’ accounts, giving your retirement savings an added boost

Company contributions

In addition to your own contributions, you may be eligible for a company matching contribution—and that will help your account grow faster. Learn about the company contribution at siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com or call the Siemens Healthineers Retirement Service Center at 844-920-4009.

Your contributions

You can contribute to the Savings Plan through automatic payroll deductions on a before-tax basis, Roth (after-tax) or regular after-tax basis, up to annual IRS limits. Choosing how to contribute allows you to align your savings strategy with your current and future goals. You have four ways to contribute:

  1. Before-tax contributions. Lower your taxable income today. You pay taxes later when you withdraw your contributions and any earnings in retirement.
  2. Roth contributions. Pay taxes now, so qualified(1) withdrawals—including earnings—are tax free in retirement.
  3. Catch-up contributions. If you’re 50 or older, you can contribute additional amounts on a before-tax or Roth after-tax basis, up to the IRS limits. Important: If you earned $150,000 or more in FICA(2) wages during 2025, and you make catch-up contributions in 2026, those contributions must be made on a Roth (after-tax) basis as required under SECURE 2.0(3).
  4. Regular after-tax contributions. Pay taxes now on these contributions. Your earnings grow tax deferred and are taxed when withdrawn.

You can mix your contribution options and adjust your elections at any time, as long as you stay within IRS limits. You may also convert eligible vested before-tax or after-tax contributions to a Roth 401(k). Keep in mind that taxes will apply to any taxable amounts converted in the year of conversion. You may want to consult a tax advisor to understand how a conversion impacts your individual situation.
For more details on plan rules, taxes, and withdrawal options, see the Summary Plan Description. Siemens Healthineers encourages you to consult a financial or tax advisor to determine the approach that best supports your individual financial goals.
(1) A qualified withdrawal meets the IRS rules for tax-free treatment. Refer to the Summary Plan Description for more information.
(2) Federal Insurance Contributions Act.
(3) Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act 2.0.

Enrollment

If you’re eligible, you can enroll in or decline enrollment in the plan within your first 30 days of employment. If no action is taken during that time, you will be automatically enrolled in the plan’s default contribution rate and investment fund.

You can change your contribution rate, investment elections, or opt out of the plan at any time after enrollment by logging into your account on siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com or by contacting the Siemens Healthineers Retirement Service Center at 844-920-4009.

Automatic Contribution Escalation

You can choose to automatically increase the percentage you contribute each year to the Savings Plan—giving you one less thing to remember! With Voya’s Rate Escalator you can schedule automatic increases to your contribution rate in set increments on annual basis. You can change your election or turn off rate escalation at any time.

Vesting

The money you contribute to the Savings Plan, and the earnings on that money, is always yours to keep. However, ownership of the company’s matching contributions is transferred to you over the first five years of employment.

Loans

Although the Savings Plan is designed for long-term savings, you may borrow from your account and pay yourself back with interest through payroll deductions. There are two types of loans available:

Loan type Eligibility requirements
General-purpose loan Allows you to take a loan for any reason
Principal residence loan Allows you to purchase a principal residence (house, condominium, land for new construction, etc.) for yourself

Go to siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com or the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for more details.

Please note: If you request a loan or withdrawal from the Savings Plan, your balance (if any) in the Personal Choice Retirement Account (PCRA), formerly the self-directed brokerage account, will be included in the total amount that you may borrow or withdraw. However, you cannot access money for loans or withdrawals directly from your PCRA.

Withdrawals

Although the Savings Plan is designed for long-term savings, you may be eligible for the following types of withdrawals:

  • Non-financial-hardship withdrawals
  • Financial-hardship withdrawals

Go to siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com or the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for more information on withdrawals.

Beneficiaries

It’s important that you make your wishes clear so that your loved ones are taken care of. If you die, your beneficiary will receive the full value of your account. If you’re already receiving installment payments at the time of your death, your beneficiary will receive your remaining account balance in a lump sum payment.

Important: If you haven’t designated a beneficiary, your account will be distributed as follows:

  • First, to your surviving spouse
  • If none, to your surviving children in equal shares
  • If neither, to your estate

To designate beneficiaries, log on to siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com, then navigate to Personal Information and then Beneficiary Information. If you have any questions, contact the Siemens Healthineers Retirement Service Center at 844-920-4009.

Portability and account distribution

If you leave the company or retire, your vested account balance will determine your options. Balances of $1,000 or less at the time of separation are automatically distributed as a lump sum. Balances greater than $1,000 up to $7,000 will automatically be rolled over to a Voya IRA if no action is taken. Larger balances offer additional flexibility, including leaving your money in the plan, taking distributions, or rolling over to another qualified retirement account.

Siemens Healthineers encourages you to consult a financial or tax advisor before making a decision. Go to siemenshealthineers401k.voya.com or the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for more information on your distribution options.

Investment options

You can choose from a wide variety of investment options representing all of the major asset classes:

Z

Ready-made portfolios.

Z

Portfolio building.

Z

Personal Choice Retirement Account.

This type of investment option is available in the form of Target Date investment portfolios. They provide professionally developed asset allocations, yet require significantly less of your involvement than building and managing your own portfolio.

Each Target Date investment portfolio has a different asset allocation of investments, which is keyed to a particular combination of target year (the year you expect to start using the money) and risk profile (how aggressively you invest).

Learn more about picking a Target Date investment portfolio and how they work by reviewing the Summary Plan Description (SPD).

If you want to build and manage your own portfolio, you can choose from investment options from each of the major asset classes:

  • Stable Value
  • Core Bond
  • High-Yield Bond
  • U.S. Large Cap Stock
  • U.S. Large Cap Growth Stock
  • U.S. Small/Mid Cap Stock
  • Non-U.S. Developed Markets Stock
  • Non-U.S. Emerging Markets Stock

These portfolio building blocks are custom-made institutional offerings, each representing a mixture of multiple investment portfolios within a single asset class or sub-asset class.

The Personal Choice Retirement Account (PCRA) (formerly self-directed brokerage account) is administered through Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. For an additional fee, the PCRA gives participants who seek more flexibility and increased diversification the ability to build and manage their own portfolios.

The PCRA offers a broader range of investment choices outside of the plan’s core funds. To open a PCRA, you must have a minimum balance of $500 in investments in the plan other than in your PCRA.

Please note: A PCRA is not for everyone. You should not consider this account unless you are a sophisticated investor who is willing to take on additional risk and is prepared to assume responsibility for closely monitoring your investments in the PCRA.
