Health Savings Medical Plan
The Health Savings Medical Plan is administered through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) or UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and offers you more control over your healthcare costs. With Anthem BCBS and UHC national provider networks, in-network care is available almost anywhere in the USA. Please note: In 2027, the Health Savings Medical Plan will only be offered through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
In addition, you’ll receive extra support through a Health Savings Account (HSA)—a tax-free account that Siemens Healthineers helps fund. Siemens Healthineers gives you money to fund this account: $400 for individual coverage, $800 if you cover dependents. You can earn more by completing wellness activities. If you join after January 1, the amount is adjusted based on when you enroll.

How the plan works
- You’ll cover the full cost of care (including prescriptions) until you meet your deductible—$2,000 for individuals or $4,000 for families.
- Then you share costs: After the deductible, you pay coinsurance of 15% and Siemens Healthineers pays 85% for in-network care, until you reach your out-of-pocket max—$4,500 for individuals or $9,000 for families.
- After that, it’s covered: Once you hit the out-of-pocket max, the plan pays 100% of eligible costs for the rest of the year.
- Preventive care is free: Annual checkups and recommended screenings are covered at no cost when you stay in-network.
- Out-of-network costs are higher: You pay more out of pocket, and the deductible is $3,000 for individuals or $6,000 for families. After that, you pay 35% and Siemens Healthineers pays 65%, up to a higher out-of-pocket max.
HSA information and tips for you
The HSA (Health Savings Account) is paired with the Health Savings Medical Plan and is a savings and investment account that works like a 401(k) plan, allowing you to set aside before-tax money, which you can use to pay for healthcare today or in the future. Siemens Healthineers contributes to the account, and so can you. You can always change your contribution during the year. And the money in the HSA is yours to keep, even if you leave the company.
Tip #1: Get the most value from an HSA.
Tip #2: How the HSA works.
Tip #3: Open your HSA to receive your company contributions.
Make sure you understand the advantages of an HSA so you can maximize your healthcare dollars—today and in the future.
- You have several tax advantages.
- Before-tax contributions: Money that goes into your account (your contribution and the company contribution) is not taxed as income.
- Tax-free distribution: Money used on eligible healthcare expenses is not taxed.
- Tax-free earnings: Interest and investment earnings on your account are not taxed.
- You’re in control. You decide how much to contribute and when to spend (or save) your HSA dollars. You can change your contribution at any time during the year (e.g., increase contributions to maximize your future savings or if you are incurring more healthcare costs than expected).
- Use it…or save it. Any money you don’t use stays in your account.
- Invest your balance. If your balance is greater than $2,000, you can grow your HSA balance by investing in mutual funds available through Optum Bank.
- It’s portable. If you leave Siemens Healthineers, you take your HSA funds with you and can use them for qualified healthcare expenses in the future.
To be eligible to participate in the HSA, you:
- Must be enrolled in the Health Savings Medical Plan; and
- Cannot participate in any other health plan that duplicates benefits covered under the Health Savings Medical Plan—such as your spouse’s or domestic partner’s medical plan or Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)—unless it’s a Limited-Use FSA or HRA; and
- Cannot be enrolled in Medicare* (Parts A, B, C, D, or Medigap); and
- Do not receive health benefits under TRICARE or TRICARE for Life; and
- Have not received Veterans Administration (VA) benefits within the past three months; and
- Cannot be claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax return.
To confirm that you qualify for a Health Savings Account, you should consult IRS Publication 969 and the Optum Bank website to review the HSA eligibility requirements.
Know your eligible expenses! Review the list of eligible expenses available on the IRS website, under Publication 969.
*Once you are enrolled in any part of Medicare, you can no longer make contributions to your HSA, and you can no longer receive tax-free contributions from Siemens Healthineers.
If you don’t open your HSA, you will not receive a contribution from Siemens Healthineers and will not be able to start saving for your future (through your before-tax payroll contributions). Here’s how to open the account:
